SCHOOL INFO
|
Collège Elsa Triolet is a 11-14 public secondary school, attented by 545 students, among whom 15
heavily cognitive impaired students are included, along with the mainstream students, including our
SEN students (most of them suffering from dyslexia and other dys- issues) . The school is located in
Ile de France, near the popular and touristic forest of Fontainebleau and its castle, and the medieval
city of Provins, both of which belonging to UNESCO world heritage. Paris is 50 minutes by train and
we can easily visit all that is to be seen there. Varennes-sur-seine offers a wide range of sport
facilities.Despite all these attractive features, most of our students and families find it difficult to
access the activities offered by our region. A great number of them come a rural and underpriviledge
background and can't afford most of activities. When they can, distance from their villages to the city
,scarce means of transport, parents working away in Paris, prevent them from attending leisure
activities or enjoying our local inheritage. Most of our students have very few opportunities to open up
to other cultures, have a blurred idea of what Europe is and can bring to them. This is why our school
is so involved in offering our students different types of activities, which should be extracurricular,
and the possibility to visit museums, exhibitions, attend drama plays, sports events. Students are
taught a second Foreign Language, and for those who wish Latin, as soon as 7th grade, and a focus
is maintained on artistic and sports activities. The key people in charge with the project ( Mrs Hamrit,
the coordinator, the Accountant Jean Luc Parent, Language teachers and Art teachers) have already
worked on a previous Erasmus + project and included in their team some volunteer teachers to train
them and have them join the project activities. This team will be in charge with the new project and
offer the same tools to help any willing member of staff to join the project. To a higher level, our
school is involved in various projects whose aims are to develop the artistic culture of our students.
Our video club teaches our students to write scripts, adapt famous plays and movies, shoot and edit
films. The drama club led by the English teachers helps our students discover foreign drama (mainly
from English speaking countries) and perform plays. Our school also organizes a yearly show with
the Music teacher helped by other members of the staff. The school is an Etwinning School and the
coordinator is an Etwinning ambassadress and with the staff elaborates different types of etwinning
projects, all rewarded with National and European Quality Labels. Our school is also involved in
volunteering work and every year our students raise funds to support a European Charity called ELA,
fighting leukodystrophies, and organize a race as a symbol of fight against this disease which often
handicap children. Two teachers are certified First Aid trainers.
